YSA Shines at the St. Thomas Yacht Club Fall Regatta

The St. Croix Youth Sailing Association (YSA) sailors returned home with big smiles and new lessons after an incredible weekend at the annual St. Thomas Yacht Club Fall Regatta – a much-anticipated event that brings together talented youth sailors from across the Virgin Islands.

This year, St. Croix proudly sent 11 sailors, ages 7 to 17, competing in four 420s and three Optis. For many of these young athletes, the regatta was a chance to measure their growth, reconnect with friends from St. Thomas and St. John, and embrace the spirit of competition that defines Virgin Islands sailing.

Day one brought a mix of excitement and challenge, as weather conditions forced an early halt to racing. But when the skies cleared, YSA sailors made the most of day two – powering through up to nine races in steady 15-knot winds and showcasing their progress, resilience, and teamwork.

“It was great to see our sailors adapt and perform under different conditions,” said Steve, YSA’s head coach. “They supported each other on and off the water, and that’s what sailing – and YSA – is all about.”

Beyond results, the weekend reinforced YSA’s mission: to build confidence, sportsmanship, and community through sailing. By maintaining close ties with their sister islands and competing in regional events, YSA sailors continue to proudly represent St. Croix and the Virgin Islands while growing as athletes and young leaders.

As the season continues, YSA remains committed to creating more opportunities for local youth to experience the joy and challenge of competitive sailing.
